PINOY DREAMS MAINSTAY FIENNESS MENDOZA LAUNCHED DEBUT SINGLE AT PINOY DREAMS

"HOLDING THE HAND OF A DREAMER" was written several months ago and  was lying among piles of papers on my study room after it was shown to Fienness Mendoza. We probably don't know where to start. It was then forgotten for a while.

The song was written late at night while my roommate was working and was on the phone helping me out the lyrics. My roommate was actually guiding me and in fact mentoring me on what message I should convey. It was done before dawn. When I started something, I meant to finish it and get it done and over with.

The title connotes a reassurances of friendship and loyalty- something to never leave someone behind instead walk with them to reach their dreams. I was actually thinking about the predicaments of youth versus the wisdom of maturity. Fienness character is identical to an artist that is sometimes reclusive. It was also her answer to a question by an Emcee at her beauty pageant competition, "What would you be when you grow older?" Her response although hardly audible was, "I want to become an international singer." We were cheering for her where she showcased her singing at the talent portion and one in our group got emotional over the song "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera interpreted by Fienness Mendoza. "It pierced my heart." a friend said.

My roommate is in fact the one who believe on Fienness Mendoza completely. I was a bit more reluctant because of her youthfulness. The lyrics were reviewed by my roommate who had substantial knowledge in music repeatedly to ensure the message was there, not just for Fienness Mendoza but for everyone whose lives are intertwined by fate or by accident to impart wisdom.

The intent and context of the song was to show the power of supporting someone or anyone. It is not just for the artist who interpreted it. It is universal in meaning. It is an encouragement to find someone, in times of disenchantment and hopelessness, the need for guidance and assurances. You basically need someone to hold you and never let it go.

But late April, as I was sitting alone, I pulled the draft and think how for someone to create a track for the lyrics. One man responded to my Ad to arrange the music and the rest is history. Although I wrote the lyrics, but Fienness Mendoza work on the creative interpretation of the song along with the music arranger Connor Grail of London, Ontario.

A guest Panelist of Pinoy Dreams, Faye Arellano commented and called the song "profound." Perhaps it is for those who unselfishly shared their wisdom and courage to show others the way.
