She Made It!

KUDOS TO FIENNE MENDOZA!!!

Months of preparation littered by many setbacks dealing with a very young artist who always turned the table around and insist on her own views and beliefs puts Heartbeat MEDIA Inc. Director, Li ERON on odd predicaments leading to the Rise of a Songbird with Fienne Mendoza concert at historic Regent Theatre in Oshawa.

FIENNE MENDOZA lives a life of "I can do this thing the way I want it..." kind of, which throw a dedicated Coach member of the team at bay. I am vocal about this because this is what Fienne Mendoza is all about; take it or leave it, a real definition of subtle rebellion. You can pull her tongue out and won't let it go, partly, I spoiled her.

It made me ponder deeply, how to get compliance from a very private young singer who kept her talents and abilities all by herself? We are at a loss sometimes.  We were ready to coach her every aspect of the concert but her deafening silence is pure warning of, "Am not gonna do that..." SHE LOVES SURPRISES and despite her demure personality, she can throw you off the chair when you bark the wrong order.

FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS and more, I've known Fienne Mendoza, every inch of her, that when she shrunk on the chair and pouted that is a humongous period. She will quit engaging and you can throw her a cat before leaping from her seat.
AND SO WHY THE SACRIFICES of dealing with her? ANYONE CAN DUMP HER and say goodbye and bury her into oblivion. MY ROOMMATE pouted at every difficulty we faced with this young girl yet we know, deep down in her heart, she is still someone we can love unconditionally. Because guess what? Fienne Mendoza is also teaching us, me, that no matter how good we are at our leadership skills, she can draw the lines for what her territory looks like, "Don't push me..." Alright. The picture is perfect of who and what she is with a little touch of sweetness. We've learn to love her and we will continue loving her.

FOR THE REMAINING WEEKS towards the Rise of a Songbird concert, all my messages were left unanswered. And here's why, she indeed made good her promised of, "Am not talking to you on the last week prior to my concert." She finally showed up on the day of her concert and a litany of words were spewed relentlessly for everything what I thought she missed to practice. HER LOVELY SISTER came to her rescue and was throwing her eyes like a sharpened dart on me. BRING IT ON PEOPLE and I was prepared to ditch the remainder of the day.

MY ROOMMATE neutralized a very tense moment because I said, "Look, somebody screwed up on stage and you'll see me walking up the dressing room." Everything were set; from her ride, her make up, her outfits, the venue was waiting for this moment to see if Filipinos are in fact capable of bringing our best talent on their stage where only the best of Canadian Entertainers are given the Theatre arena. AND HERE I AM bringing an artist who doesn't sit with us for perfect collaboration and scare the hell out of us. LET'S DO IT! I love this game.

THE SCRIPT WAS SENT TO HER WEEKS BEFORE and am sure she was reading it. There were many crucial coordinations that went really unpolished. So I asked for everyone to play by the ear. FIENNE MENDOZA is very young and it was as if, Regent Theatre's stage was going to swallow her. Few friends were asked to rate her overall performance. Something like, break her down to pieces in a way, I will know how to reassemble her on her next concert.

3M PHOTOGRAPHY covered the event at every angle which captured Fienne Mendoza's unguarded moments. MY ROOMMATE's task was to build a very calm environment so that our songbird doesn't ruffle its feathers. Fienne needs gentleness, love and utmost calm and my roommate can perfectly guard her and provide her that subtle environment. I was at the back with the Voice Over and Regent Theatre's top technicians manning the control; audio, lighting and everything that will make the concert good and flawless.

FIENNE MENDOZA surprises me and in fact, she was proudly showing me that I was wrong about her. SHE FLOATS BEAUTIFULLY and delivered!  With the support of two gifted Veteran artists- Violinist, Alpierre Hilario and Pianist, musician Rodney Ronquillo, let me include the interjection of Chyrell Samson. The Eaglet soared with a wave on me for not believing on her.  She's not off the hook with evident minor flaws. I am, we are,  ready to pull some feathers to tell her, "You need this..."

YES, SHE IS...for why would we stand there for her in some difficult times? Because Eaglet is someone whose life story we read from the very beginning where she survived bullying. She is strong in a way that she can overcome a towering mentor. I am some kind of a bully too, to the ones I loved and cared about. Something that made our journey messy, challenging and fun. Her voice, her passion, her ability to understand that her singing is something that is profound. WE WON'T LET HER WALK ALONE...

I will ask my referee when she comes home if she is ready for another bout come December when Christmas speaks volumes to a singer named Fienne Mendoza in synch with our new found Violinist, Alpierre Hilario. And what about our pianist? Keep an eye if these three brilliant artists can come together and light our Christmas lanterns bright over dinner.

Why not? And the first song I want Fienne Mendoza to sing will be, "Christmas In Our Hearts." Wait for her reaction and if she doesn't want it the response is short and dandy, "Noh..." That's what Fienne Mendoza is all about; rebellious but precious. Boredom is off the radar.

CONGRATULATIONS EAGLET!

Our first picture together on her first performance in Durham Region.
